Cesar Chavez

National Farm Workers Association led by Cesar Chavez in California began as an independent organization in 1962. It became part of the AFL-CIO in 1966. It is now known as The United Farm Workers of America. During it's numerous strikes and boycotts of table grapes, wines, and lettuce, it popularized many tactics involving ethnic alliances, community organizing, and a focus on protecting the environment.
